Weighing In

One of my New Year’s Resolutions (that I didn’t write down because I worried that I wouldn’t be able to do it with a new baby) was to keep quantitative track of how much food we are producing from our garden.  I started weighing everything we harvested at the beginning of March and here are the March and April numbers:

March:

  • Peas:  400 grams
  • Parsley:  78 grams
  • Total:  478 grams (1.05 lbs)

April:

  • Peas:  609 grams
  • Total:  609 grams (1.34 lbs)

We’re actually doing better than the above numbers show because we harvest lettuce constantly for salads, fajitas, burgers, etc. and I never remember to weigh it.  Thomas also picks a few strawberries nearly every day and they never make it out of the front yard much less to the scale.  I can hardly wait until we start harvesting tomatoes, squash, and watermelons – those will be some big numbers (I hope!).
